Basalt is a custom typeface and editorial book inspired by the geometric structure of columnar basalt rock formations. I studied the natural processes behind basalt columns and translated their hexagonal forms, sharp edges, and vertical rhythms into a cohesive typographic system. The project explores how organic structures found in nature can inform modern, structured type design while balancing bold visual impact with functional legibility.
